Instructional Photography

Though not guided hikes, many of the locations we go to involve some hiking to get to these magical spots.  Locations can be discussed with your instructor. This is not a photo tour, but rather an outdoor classroom session designed to help elevate your skills and capture better images.  

Students need to have their own SLR/DSLR and lenses. 

NOTE: You must bring your paid entrance fee receipt or show your National Park's Pass for all tours which enter Zion or Bryce National Park.

Tour Options

~ Sunrise/Sunset - Zion National Park ~

Sunrise and Sunset shoots are 3-4 hours and include set-up and staging time to make sure we are in the right area for the best possible angles and landscapes. Zion has both amazing sunsets and sunrises, but the best place to see Zion is not always IN Zion, and your instinct, or instructor, will lead you to the best options. Your photo instructor will help with tripod use, camera settings, and image composition. Sunrise and sunset times vary by season and your instructor will contact you a few days before your trip to dial in the best time based on weather and lighting. Your start time is given as a rough estimate for trip planning purposes. Locations can be discussed with your instructor. • Sunrise Meet Times: Start between 5am to 7am, and we are out for 3-4 hours.

• Sunset Meet Times:  Start between 4pm to 6pm, and we are out for 3-4 hours.

~ Zion Narrows ~ 

This specific location is a major attraction for both photographers and hikers alike. A world class destination. Mixing the water elements with vibrant and sometimes eerie canyon walls make for insane photography options. This is about an 8 hour day with transport and shooting. Because the light conditions change throughout the day, with the possibility of shade or sun around every corner, excellent shooting conditions can be found all hours of the day, nearly every day of the year. You will travel as far as Orderville Canyon to the mouth of Wall Street in the Virgin River Narrows, max 6 miles round trip. Prices include outfitting with seasonally appropriate gear.

~ Bryce CanyoN ~

Bryce is an outstanding location with it’s most ornate and colorful features facing easterly. Bryce is beautiful all day for hikers and sightseers, but it’s most photographic time is sunrise. Sunrise in the Bryce Amphitheater, either at the rim or shooting through Queens Garden is stunning, then late morning light in Bryce Canyon’s Wall Street section of the Navajo Loop Trail makes for a great shoot. We will spend about 5 hours total car to car including hiking and shoot time.  We use Zion-based instructors so prices are higher than the Zion area to include their travel time and overnight expenses.

• We meet you in Bryce and recommend you stay out near Bryce so that we can meet at the Bryce Canyon Visitor Center between 4:30am and 6:30am seasonally (tbd at booking).
